Very bad headlights
Hi folks. I recently bought a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab, 4x4. My complaint is the headlights. I found there is a headlight option that my truck does not have. My headlights have one bulb on each side versus two bulbs on each side. I want to add a bull bar up front and two 55/60 watt motorcycle headlights. Question is: will my alternator handle the extra headlights? Are there bulbs I can buy to make things bright again? Thanks

Yes you can add 2 extra lights without causing any problems
I have had 658 watts worth of lights running on my '12 and one time, all without a problem

You could change your existing bulbs to HID lights. That would definitely give you more light with your existing headlight housings. If you search for HID's, look for the duals and not the quads. Quads are for the 4 bulb set up. Some places have complete replacement housings with HIDs installed or you can go with just replacing the bulbs. Make sure you get a kit with the resistor installed in the harness. A couple places you can go on the web are

These two are not the cheapest, but you will get quality and they can answer any questions you have.
Have fun modding!!

To increase the brightness you'll have to go to a xenon bulb or better would be HIDs with a 5000K or 6000K bulb for best visible light. The places TVL put up are good and I just ordered a set from JJ at Retroshop for my new truck, I also recommend the Oracle kits from AAC as another quality kit. Spend the money on good kits, because if you have any issues you'll also get great customer service.

I have the quad lights & they are fairly good, but i am going to switch the bulbs out with the
Sylvania Silverstar Ultras & they too are pricey

Same here but when buying them make sure they fit i went to 2 stores and the numbers they have listed for the bulbs are all off the gave me a 90 degree hook style instead of a straight one that i needed

I put in PIAA Extreme White bulbs in mine which work a lot better than oem. The fog lights make the most difference. The headlights are almost useless on high beam. They say not to use HID bulbs in a housing not make for them. You also may not pass inspection with those bulbs in. I am eventually going to swap out the headlights with projectors when i have the $$$. By the way, changing the bulbs in a PITA!!

I agree the head lights in the 2012 sucks. I used the zxe bulbs which are a little better. Im looking at HID lights but with the dual bulb set up i have, i think it would be better to find a quad housing. Im not sure if the HID lights would void my warranty...........

i also swapped the stockers for the zxe lights very noticeable differance stock lights in these trucks have been poor since 09 i also did and recomend the fogs as well as i find i get most of my light output there anyway

Not to hijack this thread, but what did you use for the fog lights?
