17 x 7 wheel and biggest tires on the Outdoorsman

I ordered a new Outdoorsman with the 20 inch wheel option but I have been second guessing this choice. Can someone tell me what is the largest size tire that can safely go on the 17 inch wheel? I am struggling with the small tire "look" on the stock 17's.

A lot of guys run 285/70/17 and this gives you the same 33" diameter as the stock 20's. I think a few guys have run 305's but had rubbing issues. But 285/70/17 seems to be popular and looks good. You can also go 275/70/17, only about a inch less diameter than the 20's, but all the tires in this option are LT if that matters. I am with you, 265/70/17 just look way to small on these trucks

I agree my 265/70/17 winter tires are small looking that I run on my sport during winter months. 285's all the way.

No problems with safety running bigger tires on these rims? I always hear about OEM specs and that anything more may push the safety factor.

guys run 315/75r17 on stock wheels. that is a little much IMO but 285/75r17 are right under 34" tall. it works out to be a 34 x 11.50. those are what i'm looking at for my 3rd gen 2500.

My 2011 Outdoorsman came factory stock with 275-70-17 Goodyear Wrangler AT's. I have been researching what Light Truck tires are available in this size and it is very limited - mostly Goodyear, Goodrich & Firestone. Much more available in the 265 size but a little less in the 285 size. I will most likely go for 285-70-18 as there are more choices available and you do get a bit bigger tire - this is the size I would recommend.
