Help A NOOB With a Steering Gear Question!
Hey Guys, First time poster here and I know I'm probably supposed to introduce myself in the n00b section but I'm in a real tight squeeze here.
I have a 2001 Ram 1500 5.9L and my steering box went out the other day as I left for work. so I pulled the sucker out to replace it and realized I have a prefectly good (Bad Motor) 1998 Ram 1500 5.9 sitting in the shop with a new gear box.
I pulled that one out also. looked at them together and the only difference I see is the tiny 1/4inch round shaft that sticks out 1/2 inch from the spline shaft that bolts to the steering column, everything else looks the same externally.
So I should just ask the damn question already... does anyone know since my steering box had the shaft but the 1998 doesn't can I use the gear box on my truck or is there more to it internally that will make it not work.
Sorry to belong winded I just need to know before I miss more time at work or spend 160$ that doesn't need to be spent. feel free to flame if it is a n00b question as long as you answer it. thanks in advance!
There are quite a few part numbers from those years. I would recommend calling a dealer with your VIN and asking which part numbers will work for you.
