Need help with front end cracking sounds

Hello everyone. It's been a while seen I have been on this sight due to me being deployed...again, lol. But I am back for atleast 8 months...
This is my problem. While driving it feels like the wind is blowing really hard and moving the truck side to side. But get this, there was NO wind. Then I started hearing a cracking sound while driving and turning the wheel. I also hear the noise turning the steering wheel, even if im in my driveway not moving. Also when driving it sounds like the sound you hear when breaks are going bad. Like breaks on rotors sound. But I just replaced my breaks and rotors. All brand new. PLEASE HELP!

I was told it was it could be a Drag Link.

Sounds like something is dragging against one of your front wheels. That would make it pull in one direction and make a grinding noise. Which ever side it's pulling toward is likely the problem side. jmho

You really need to enlist some help for this. It's good that you can duplicate this with the truck not rolling - this will make diagnosing it easier. Have someone get in the truck and turn the wheel from side to side while you get under the truck and search for the source of the noise.

Whoever told you this has no clue about Ram trucks. Yours doesn't have a drag link.

Well, its pulling to the right very little while driving but when I turn left is when its making the most cracking sound. I have alos checked for rubbing on both side and there is none that I seen. My plan this coming weekind is to replace the rack and pinion and all the tie rod ends. Or do you think it is something else?

Yes, I had my son turn the wheel back and forth while i looked on top and bottom to try and find the problem. It sounds to be coming from the tie Rod ends more. It sounds like a cracking noise. It also sounds like a spring that has too much tension on it and its going to pop off. Hope this helps.

If you suspect the tie rod ends, there's an easy way to confirm or eliminate them. Jack up the truck, remove the tie rod end and turn the wheel by hand. If the noise is gone, replace the rod ends or rack as needed. If it's still there, you have a ball joint or axle problem.

So here is an update on the work I had to do on my front end this past weekend. I have to say that when I first started the work, I was a bit scared due to me being a basic mech. I made a few mistakes in the begining only to due lack of experiance and knowledge. But quickly seen what I did wrong and corrected them. On the left side I replaced the outter tie rod, hub assembley, rotor and brakes. Right side I replaced otter tie rod, rotor and brakes.
However, when I was looking inside the calipers on the left side, I seen that my pistons outter boot was cracking and tearing away, the rubber part around the piston. I was told that this is one of the reasons why it pulls to the right while driving and braking. So my plane next month is to replace the calipers on both sides and the hub assembley on the right side.
I would really like to thanks everyone that has helped me with the info that I need to get this done.
The whole job took a total of 5.5 hours of work and a total of $252. Yes, I got some good discounts on all the parts. Saved a total of $310. Military discounts are awesome!!!
Not really sure how to add the pictures I took of the work but I will add them when I figure it out.
Thanks again everyone!!!
