Engine light on evic says -40 temp

I have a 2013 express crew cab that I just swapped the stock mirrors out with a set of non heated power tow mirrors and now engine light is on and evic says outside temp is -40. It's currently 38 degrees out. What is causing this? Does truck need to be flashed to add mirrors that don't have heated glass?

The temperature sensor was in the driver side rear view mirror. Removing the stock mirror removed the sensor. The -40 is the bottom reading or an open sensor.

Okay cool. That makes sense. What about the engine light? Can I wire in a sensor?

This would be just a guess on my part, but check engine light is what the computer has to indicate something wrong. Not just the engine. So a missing sensor is something wrong. The senor would need to be the same type as the one in the mirror you removed. I do not know where in the mirror it is located, just that it is in there. People on the board have had theirs replaced to try to correct bad readings. So that tells me it is an order-able part.

This is incorrect. The ambient temp sensor for a 2013 Ram is, as in previous models, behind the fascia (see Fig. 1).

Have the PCM scanned to determine the exact code. I suspect the sensor itself is faulty.

Of course I do. That's why I go to work.

Weird that the sensor may have gone out with only 251 miles on the truck and happened to go out right after I switched the mirrors. Hope that's not a sign of future issues. I will take it to oreileys down the street and see if they can scan it and see what code shows up

Just checked the factory mirrors and the drivers side mirror has the power wites, adjustment wire for the glass and heater wires for the heated mirrors but it also has an extra white wire compared to the passenger side. The towing mirrors I got only have 3 wires which I assume is a power, ground, and control wire to adjust the glass
