6.1 Hemi Tensioners May Be No Better Than The 5.7

This is mainly for all you out there who have or were debating "upgrading to the tensioner from the 6.1 Hemi to repair or prevent failure of the 5.7 timing chain tensioner/guide assembly. I just finished tearing the cover off of a 2007 Charger with a 6.1 that has lunched its tensioner/guide assembly. At first glance this seems to disprove the theory that the 6.1 design is safe(r) from failure compared to the 5.7 because I have now seen one of each.

Overall the 6.1Ls hold up better than the 5.7L ones do when there's more power. With the number that have been swapped in the LX community for this very reason and there are very few issues with the 6.1L timing set. Not saying they're perfect, but they have an extra tensioner leaf than the 5.7L ones.

No, and at this point it's highly unlikely.

Does the 6.1 tensioner and chain bolt in to the 5.7? The 5.7 is VVT and the 6.1 is not. I didn't think they would swap, but I don't know.

The 6.1L tensioner will only bolt into the pre-eagle 5.7L. The Eagle timing set is moved further out from the block's face.

Makes sense, so it would bolt in to 2009 and older 5.7's.
