My barrel build

Built with a $40 stove kit, burnt paint off outdoors, moved in and hooked it up. Heated very nicely.

That's awesome. Looks like that thing will throw out a lot of heat. Had to be a lot cheaper that a regular wood stove. Nice job!

I know those are against our fire codes up here, have you thought about that as well as your home insurance? I'm assuming it's temporary during the renovations, correct?

Yes, just temp til I get a regular stove, it will be relocated from the center of the room to the outer wall as well. Later, I will move this to the garage when it is built.
It throws alot of heat, I am very impressed with it, with that wall opened to the second floor it heated the entire house.

Here where I live its kind of un-incorporated, so its legal and insurance company knows Im burning wood for heat. I got the cheapest insurance til I get the house done and will have an appraisal done. Right now it is just valued at triple the payoff.
Since I am opening alot of walls, there will be less drywall used when the time comes, Im guessing 1/2 of what was in there. Kitchen and sunroom I may go rustic with all wood for the warm, western feel.
