EGR Vs Non-EGR are the engines interchangeable?

hello everyone,
I've got a question someone might be able to answer for me. I'm replacing the engine on my 2005 Ram 1500 4.7L (blew the heads on it) once my mechanic got in to it he suggests i replace the whole engine. I've got no problem with that. The question i have is there are 2 motors that can go in this truck EGR and Non-EGR.
The EGR engine is the one i need. Are the engines interchangeable? can i use a non-EGR engine? is there a access panel on the non-EGR engine you can remove and install a EGR valve?... any help will be greatly appreciated. :4-dontknow:
