Towing with a 13

If I'm towing a boat in the 4,000 pound class or under, can I just disable MDS and choose 5th or 6th gear or do I need to put it in tow mode? Thanks, Sean

I use tow haul when towing. It changes the shifts point to match the demand while towing and disables MDS.

Good to know, thank you

what kind of gas mileage can I expect pulling a boat?

MeanieNJ 03-26-2013 10:51 PM

I asked because I was wondering about MDS. i see now it turns it off in tow mode and changes shift points.

It would depend on your gears to. My 13 has the 3.55's and feels underpowered for the near 400hp it supposed to have. When I had my 09 with the 3.92's and the MDS dissabled I towed in d and got great mileage now I use tow mode and it sucks. Hopefully the tuners will helps this or soon as I get the lift I am going for a gear swap

Ya a tune won't help that much compared to towing with 3.92's. towing with gears of 3.55's compared to 3.92's is night and day. The 3.92's will make the truck work less and thus be better in mpg's compared to the 3.55's.

I went with 3.92's. I won't be towing a hell of alot but when I do I know It wont feel like Im driving my neon with 5 passangers and a full trunk again when towing with the RAM. Also having it be quicker off the line will be sweet:smileup:

Is it a direct swap to replace the stock 3.55s with 3.92s?

BigDRammer 03-28-2013 07:39 AM

When I bought my truck I made sure it had 3.92 and limited slip. I searched dealers inventory for days before I found the truck I wanted. I would not get one with 3.55 for the one fact of towing . It is night and day difference.
