09 Ram What's it worth?

I bought my truck back in July for $26000 , and went to trade it in and they said its only worth $19000. Its a 2009 ram 1500 crew cab sport with 64k almost fully loaded only missing sunroof and nav. Has every other option . Truck is in really nice shape .Are these dealers nuts by offering me so little. I live in pa .

They offered me $17,000 sight unseen
No way they will ever get it for that price
It has a FACTORY LIFETIME DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY
it is the last year that it was offered
I will keep it for that price, or give it to a family member & keep my name on it as a LIEN HOLDER
Then if i decide to buy another new Ram, i will buy it outright, as i did with this one
I also have the Lifetime Maximum Care Warranty with $100 deductible
if its mechanical, it is covered

What were you looking at trading it in on?

vehicles depreciate it like crazy the first couple of years. If you bought it new for $26,000 then the dealership will prob ask $22,000 in hopes to get around $21,000 out of it. so $19,000 doesn't sound so low ball. you're better of selling private IMO.

I would say you paid too much for it when you bought it. It was used right?

Took my 09 Laramie with 80,000km to the dealership to see what it was worth...said they would give me $24,500 for it. It does have a 5yr 160,000km extended warranty on it as well. It was used when I bought it in Feb.2010 and paid $32,000. It only had 13,000km on it and the previous owner purchased the extended warranty and it transferred over with the truck. Mind you my buddy works at Dodge and swung me a sweet deal.

They always ding you for trade ins, generally thousands of dollars. I would say here 26000 is too much for an 09 with 105,000 kms (64,000 miles). There is a brand spanking new 2013 ram 1500 sport package on Kijiji at a dealer near Toronto for 32,000.

Every dealer is different as well. For instance there are certain cars i'll trade for more than my competitors and sometimes they beat me. Just depends on the market of our area, what our inventory already has, and what the customer is buying.

Most dealers to lowball early. Just depends. Personally, just off the top of my head and not looking at my reports, the $19,000 doesnt sound godawful for a trade in value.

Most dealers want to average $2000-2500 gross on the front. Most also have a $800-1500 RECON fee. So if you take the median of those too you are looking at them needing to trade for it for $3000-4000 under what they are planning to sell it for.

Taking these numbers they would retail your truck for $22,000-23,000... Which I know in my market would be on the higher end for an 09 Sport 2wd, but not terribly off. Its also hard when other dealers might be selling similar 2012s-2013s for low 30s.. So you have only a 8-7k difference between an 09 with 60k plus miles and a new truck with now miles.

I am in no way trying to justify their price, like I said I haven't look at my analysis report. I am just simply posting this to maybe give you a perspective from a dealer. In my opinion, unless you need the trade as a DP or to help with taxes, SELL IT OUTRIGHT. You will always get more. Rather than asking what trade value is, ask what your buyout value is. Because they can simply allow more for your car such as 20-22k, but this just means that the 2,000 they allow on your trade is being added to the vehicle you are buying, so you are still only getting 19,000. Getting a buyout quote from a dealer and its competitors will give you a firmer grasp on who is going to give you more money for your trade.

Hope this helps and GET ALL YOU CAN for it!
