Kinda newbie here, 2001 Ram 1500 5.2L wont start.

Hey guys thanks for checking out my post. I just picked up a 2001 Quad Cab 1500 4x4 Off-Road with a 5.2L. The guy beat the hell out of it and I am working on rebuilding it to its former glory because I love these trucks. I say I'm a newbie because I had a 01 1500 but only for a short time.

My issue at the moment is the truck won't run. She turns over, and starts up and will run as long as I'm giving it gas but the moment I let off it dies.

That's about it, if i just turn the key it turns over, fires and dies. Give it gas and it will run, I've been all over this forum and haven't seen anything quite like this issue. I think I have it narrowed to the IAC, TPS, or the Crank Sensor, any other ideas or am I on the right track? Any help would be welcomed.

Any oil in the plenum? sounds like a vac leak. Got a low RPM miss under load? VAc leak, probably the plenum gasket, seems to be quite common, one of my trucks awaits warm weather, for this prob. There is also a temp sensor for ambient air behind/below the alternator, bad info into the ECU, bad info out. My 2 cents!

I just picked up a 98 that hadent ran it 2 years, would fire up then die...unless I kept pedal to te floor.turned out to be old gas.it eventually burned itself out.check the quality of fuel getting to the engine.

See if you can get the engine up to temp. If it will idle after that it a dirty IAC. Remove the throttle body and IAC and clean the deposits on the throttle body.
