97 5.2 gas gauge issues.
My first truck was a 97 Dodge half ton 318. Loved it. So when I got the chance to own another one, I jumped on it. This one had some maintenance issues. Things are going well, except for one little thing. I have no way of knowing how much gas is on it.
Here's a video of what it does at a red light, then taking off. My gas light will come on eventually, then turn off again. Want to get some ideas before we start tearing things apart to figure it out.
Thanks in advance. :)
I'd start by running a couple of tank fulls of premium in it, to see if the resistor cleans up. Guessing that your resistor or the arm that rides up and down on it has a corrosion problem, which is caused by corrosive ethanol in mid and low grade fuels. Every 10 tankfuls or so, I run premium, in my Dodges, and have never had a fuel gauge prob, and in my explorer, when the gauge starts to get screwy, a tankfull of premium clears it up for another couple of months. It works for me, maybe for you, as well.
try a can of seafoam added to the next tank of fuel
