Heavier towing?
I was wondering realistically what type of weight my new 2013 Ram could tow. I'm not quite sure if it came with a heavier duty tow package or not. I've searched on Google a bit and consensus seems that the later Ram 1500's come with this by default.

What's got me confused is the window sticker says it comes with "Trailer tow with 4-pin connector" but it has the dual 4- and 7-pin in the bumper. It's got the Class IV hitch (listed as optional on the sticker). I can't see a transmission cooler on the rad which other pictures I've found show clearly. The door tag says 6800lbs GVWR but at the dealer they told me it can tow over 8000 (and I trust salesmen as far as I can throw them lol).

Without actually seeing my truck in person, can anyone tell me if I can safely tow 8000lbs without destroying my transmission or anything else, or should I keep ~6500 as my limit?

In short I would not tow more than your rated tow capacity indicated on the door sticker, or at least not often and far.

Go back to the dealership where you bought it from. They should of went over the truck with you before you left. I have a 2012 with the 5.7 hemi and tow package it is rated for 10500. It did sag but installed some Airlift Dominators on the rear. If you have the smaller V8 than I could see that your tow rating is around 8000k

That 6800gvwr is just the weight you are allowed on your truck axles combined. That is not a towing weight. Towing weight should be listed in your manual.

All of your answers will be found here. You need to know the details of your truck (ie. rear end gear ratio). This is the bible for your towing needs, not some opinions on the forum.

FYI the GVWR is the weight of your truck + max cargo weight (including passengers and trailer tongue weight)
