Cruise Control surging.
I have just discovered that when I turn on my cruse control. It feels like its surging. When I set it at 60 MPH it slows down to around 54 and then speeds up to about 70 to 75 MPH. There is no happy medium.
I just had change the speed sensor on the transmission and the rear end. Went to work the next day,Set the cruise and it started. Then removed the one in the rearend replaced the old one back in it and it still surges.
I have a 1992 Dodge D150,5.2 V8 (318) Auto. arounf 180,000 miles. Cant tell it though. Body and motor looks almost new.
I also just did a total tune up. Plugs,Wires,Didt Cap, Rotor button.
Me being vertically challanged ( SHORT) I had to get into the engine compartment to do the Plug wires and cap. LOL.
How do I test for a vaculm leak on it. Just incase I may have cracked a hose?
Thanks for any help with this issue.
The vacuum hose should be short; just follow it to it's source... usually the brake booster. I'm thinking though it just might need a slight adjustment on the sensitivity of the cruise unit itself. If you look at the unit on the fender you will see a small allen-head screw. This is the sensitivity adjustment screw. Try backing it out (CCW) 1/4 turn and test drive it. More surging - screw it back in the 1/4 turn, and an additional 1/2 turn. Test again.
Let us know what you find out.
Yeah, what he said.
On the vacuum lines, best to trace by hand. Easier to feel dried, brittle, cracked lines that way.
