Air Filter-How often?

I am in the process of changing oil and rotating my tires etc. I have been changing the air filter once a year but I only went 10k miles this year and it doesn't look very dirty sitting next to the new one. How often do you change yours?

I use a K&N so I clean it every 6 months. Honestly how often is going to depend on the conditions you drive in. Personnaly I would replace yearly at a minimum reguardless, more often if necassary.

I looked at a friends 2008 Dakota w/ 4.7L air cleaner last night
the top of his filter looked new & then i told him to lift it out, because he was going to have to remove the whole air box, the bottom of that filter was dirty enough to need changing & he needs to change it to pass the Smog Test this week
It is about 6 months old

As Battle rattle said, it really depends on conditions you drive in. Someone who drives off-road a lot will need to change much more frequently than someone who drives all higway as an example. Then some regions have more dust, dirt blowing around than others. I check my filter about every 6K, by removing it and inspecting both sides, then I hold it up to the sun to determine if there is any significant blockage.
