Vapor/Charcoal canister question
While investigating a p0441 EVAP code, I eventually made my way to the charcoal canister. When I pulled the hose connection off the canister, a bunch of charcoal fell out. After a few minutes, I had found charcoal bits all the way up to the purge solenoid. The entire line that goes up to the purge solenoid was filled. I removed the charcoal canister and whenever I flip it up on end, a bunch of charcoal falls out. Is it supposed to come out like that? Nothing holds it inside? Do I need to purchase a new canister? It only comes from the outlet that leads to the purge solenoid.
Thank you for checking this thread out. I appreciate it. I'm not finding much information on the web for this.
1997 Ram 1500 5.9L
Pulled mine and didn't see charcoal coming out, I assume not...
I had a 97 ram with the same issue. It was a common problem on these truck and there was a TSB issued, which I believe became a recall. You should check with Chrysler on this.
Your canister and purge solenoid will need to be replaced. The improved canister (if still available) doesn't breakdown and release charcoal into the lines.
