What did I do?

So I installed a K&N cold air intake on my 06 ram 1500 4X4 Larmie,
everything else is stock, man I noted big change and response. The sound
of the engine sucking all that air in was awesome. So I though this could only get better with some 40 series Flowmast dual exhaust. Yep it sounds bad ass, but I don't really like it. I have seemed to feel like a lost a little power removing the stock muffler and installing the flowmater and tips. what are your thoughts and do recommend a replacement muffler ?

you shouldn't have a loss of power from taking off that ridiculously restrictive stock one. i'm not sayin you should have felt a HUGE increase in power...but definitely not a loss. I hope you just didnt have high expectations for adding a CAI and exhaust..so now if feels worse even those its just that nothing changed. they are good for sound and that's about it.

if it still bothers you then looks like u gotta go to and through exhaust like magnaflow. I have the flowmaster 40 on my truck and didn't know a loss at all. and it sounds amazing.

how long ago did u do these changes?

I think the brain thinks that louder should be faster. When it's not the brain is disappointed.

LMAO!!!! That guy is funny in everything he plays in.

I agree with both of you guys. I have always heard that straight through designs like Magnaflow are more likely to provide a performance gain than a chambered design like Flowmaster. I am a little skeptical of any noticeable change from a simple muffler swap but who knows. I wonder if maybe the louder exhaust makes it seem like the truck is working harder and should therefore being going faster when in reality it's working the same as it always has, just making more noise doing it, lol.

All that being said, I ran a Flowmaster on my 2006 4.7L quad cab for a year and then swapped to a Magnaflow. I could swear the truck seemed more responsive after the swap. Maybe I'm a victim of the very mind game that I was discussing above!

HA,HA.

you are probaly right the louder exhaust makes it seem like the truck is working harder and should be. I wasn't looking for any gains, I installed a K&N air intake kit and felt a big difference, So i thought the exhaust would make it seem better. But I think the loud exhaust has ruined that new intake feeling, I am a victim I guess. Do you guuys think I could swap my muffler out to something a little less loud maybe?

From my experience, yes ditch the Flowmaster and put something like a Magnaflow on there. An 18"Maggy is plenty loud without screaming "Hey look at me"
