Get more info using VIN

Im looking at a used 2007 and have the VIN. is there a way to use that to find original specs of the vehicle? Specifically if it is quad/crew (pretty sure quad), bed length, and trim level (hint at ST/SLT)

I want to say the SLT has stainless/chrome bumpers and the ST has black plastic. Quad cab/ crew is fairly easy just by looking because the quads look more like half doors and the crew looks almost the same size as the front.. Bed.. There is 5'7, 6'4, 8. The only way you can really get much info off the vin would most likely have to be through a build sheet, which requires ownership.
Just to give you an idea of what the quad cab , 6'4 box looks like.. Heres my truck.. 08, so identical body style.

^^^^ What he said...Also you might want to check with Carfax.

Agreed. Unless you can talk someone at a dealership into accessing the build sheet for you, you probably aren't going to get this info from the VIN.

As was already said though, all of those things can be very easily determined by seeing the vehicle. If that isn't possible for some reason I would contact the seller and make them obtain a build sheet and send it to you. If they really want to sell it, they will. It doesn't cost anything.

I was also going to say Carfax, but I didn't know how much it would cost:4-dontknow: and if he is just looking for mainly body measurements, isn't to hard to see just from the eye.

If the truck is as long as a bus.. then it is long box crew cab:LOL:

Thanks, from pictures it looks like an extended cab 6 ft bed but the dealer told my dad it was crewcab 8 ft... It is a used car dealers so they always get confused with extended vs crew and rim level it seems.

What's your opinion of 2007 Cummins 2500s? Any common issues with them?

Its got about 80k miles and my dad said its pretty clean. Carfax says 1 accident but no damage. Do 07s have emissions equipment? Someone told my dad this one is reported to get 20 mpg.

Yeah with Rams it can be tricky at first, seeing as other companys typically had/ have suicide doors for the quads, but I think dodge eliminated that with the 3rd gen.. And yeah used dealerships typically do have an issue with knowing what they are actually selling. I don't know much about the 07 cummins because I beleive that is when they switched from the famous 5.9L to the 6.7L with the emissions equipment, so first year engine there is probably some kinks and issues like usual.. I know that you will be able to find threads with reviews about it on here with some research.. I found this on google which may have some benefit, hopefully don't get in trouble for posting this. Good luck with your hunting, Cummins and Rams in general are amazing trucks.

It's listed as 2007 5.9l Cummins.

My main gripe is I'd like a crew cab long box. Im still considering it due to price and need vs wants...

Ugh anyone just want to buy me a truck? ;-)

Kcbigbadram 04-18-2013 11:49 AM

im pretty sure there was only quad cab or mega cab in the 3rd gen right?

Ristar15 04-18-2013 11:52 AM

I was wondering that, but it sounded stupid in my head so i ignored the though. Hearing someone else say it makes it sound more reasonable.
