2012 mpg

I just drove my 2012 on my first road trip, The truck runs and drives great, Driving from Hinesburg Vt to Addison Me 350 miles the best mileage was 16.2
My truck is a 2012 Ram Outdoorsman 5.7 2500 with stock tires, a tonneau cover and a flowmaster cat back. The truck has just turned 9000 miles. Why is the mileage so bad. My father in law has a 98 GMC 250 with a 350 that did better mpg than my ram.

It really all depends on terrain, speed, and most importantly, drivers foot input. Also, what rear end do you have in that 3/4 ton bud. That's still very good mpg's if that's a city/hwy mix of 16 for an HD with a Hemi.

I drove it like the gas peddle was an egg didn't even pass one car stayed at speed limit. gears are 373

You know, my mileage didn't get better until after 5000 miles to tell you the truth. Although my 1/2 ton Hemi CC 4x4 is probably about 1K lbs lighter than your 3/4 ton if that. And I have the 3.55's and now with over 13500 miles, I get 16.8mpg's city/hwy mix and 21-22mpg's Hwy. With the big three of course; CAI, Maggie, and tuner using 93 performance tune.

I also forgot to add I was running mid grade fuel

I suspect heavier truck, perhaps gearing and low miles on the clock. Having said that, considering the size of these things, what they are designed to do, I would not say 16mpg is all that bad.

Big plus 1 on that one Hermes! Hell, my 99 Ram with the 5.9 Magnum averaged 10mpg on good days. And I loved that beast!
