do you need a pro with a scan tool to flush/change calipers?

so my right front caliper is sticking. need to replace it tomorrow. u have to bleed the brakes right? and don't u need a scan tool to make that happen? or is that only for some trucks?

help me pleaseeee

I'm interested in the answer to this. I've never used a scan tool to do so with vehicles with ABS but have always had difficulty getting it bled. I did always eventually succeed, sometimes it took coming back on a future day...

there are youtube videos that show how to do brake jobs with ABS systems

one that i watched one showing a guy using vice grips with rubber hose over the pointed grips to pinch the fluid line off, close to the caliper
don't let the caliper hang freely on the hose, like this guy did
try to keep weight off of the hose

just cut off the circular clips that hold the rotor stable, they only have them on there so that they don't fall off as the Ram travels on the factory assembly line to where the wheels are installed

stupid question. how do I find out if I have ABS? chances are I do? look at my build sheet? I'm a little intoxicated and fear navigating my old posts for my build sheet thread

build sheet says "BRRS 4 Wheel Disc Rr Anti-Lock Brakes". so just rear? it's my front caliper that's stuck

never mind. caliper just needed a good cleaning. all is well. thanks for the help tho

Ended up needed to replace the calipers. Just bleed like normal. The caliper decided to freeze up good right in front of a rinky dinky repair shop in the middle of no where. I lucked out.

$200 later :/

You have ABS, I guarantee it

Look right under and NEAR the brake fluid master cylinder. If you see a square box with metal hoses, that's the ABS pump and you have 4 wheel ABS

If you completely change your brake fluid due to overhaul or tired fluid, the scan tool will make the ABS unit "cycle", gurgle, bubble and burp out the old brake fluid inside the ABS valves.

If you don't use the scan tool, then you'll (most likely) have a slightly to significantly "soft" spongy brake pedal after a flush.
