Using 9005 bulb instead of 9145 in fog lights

Has anyone had any melting issues with lenses by upgrading to the 9005 bulb over the stock 9145 bulb? I considering doing this but I don't want to melt my lenses. Thanks

I did it over a year ago .... no problems at all ..... you have to file one tab on the bulb down .... DO NOT TOUCH BULB WITH FINGERS it will make them blow out real fast... I cleaned mine with windex and let them dry good ..... they dont last as long as the stock bulb but a night and day difference on the road.... I used sylvanya silver star ultras in all ... hi/low/fog.

Do it .. you wont regret it

Ok thanks, I'm not worried about the wiring so much as I'm worried about the lens

Some posts I have read on other sites say you they will fit without filing. It would be one of the tabs I assume. The tabs on the 9005 are off a little compared to the 9145

Thank you

Thank you for such a quick respones,You can tell the difference with them in the fogs,Because with my low beams and fogs on the light output is not that great on the new 2013 Rams...

45W VS 65 W will be a noticeable difference.

I did the near identical thing on my previous Ford truck and regretted it. Why? Pathetic longevity.

The extra light output was NOT worth the horrid life.

Can't comment on the life because I eventually went to HID.. but this is what it looked like on my Ram after I changed them out.

How long are you saying they lasted?? and whats the cost of the bulb? thank you for any info and how hard are they to change out. Thanks

I don't remember them being difficult to change out at all but this was on my Ford's fogs

They lasted me less than six months which was really disappointing. I emailed Sylvania at the time with no response.

I paid about $25 each for the 9145 Sylvania ST and $32 for the 9005 equivalent. Both were purchased at Autozone so add a little to for tax.

Like I said, the light output was a dramatic improvement but I just couldn't justify the poor life span. Especially when I got almost two years out of the 9145. I went back to the 9145's and sold the truck with them still working after almost three years from date of install.

Hope this helped.

Good luck.
