07 BigHorn - strut/shock replacement

Hello. I've been searching in this area of the forums and cannot find just quite what I'm looking for. I have an 07 2wd QC Hemi Big Horn. It's just at about 66K on the odometer, and feels like it's about time for shocks and tires to be replaced.

For the shocks... I'm looking for recommendations (and hopefully part numbers) on what struts/shocks that are available that are as good or better then stock, along with anything else I'll need that I'm not aware of, like potentially an upper strut mount?

Looks like the bilsteins 5100s are a popular option, but from all the threads I've read they are for leveled trucks. Are they good for just a daily driver or more geared towards offroad use??

Thanks in advance!!

you cant use the adjustable shocks on a 2wd anyway. but if u can find bilsteins for your 2wd they are a good upgrade

Thank you for that link!!! Boom.. just ordered a set for the truck. 311.80 to the door!!

I am guessing I'll still need to pickup a set of upper strut mounts? I can do that at the local parts store, and am already spying some Moog parts for that.

Yes... ordered 2 front... 2 rear. Might as well replace them all. :)

I emailed them to see what they can do. Thank you for that information.

sweet. Hit me up when you get to installing them (if you DIY) and I have some good write ups and tips.

Because you have a 2007 like mine, there is a good chance you'll run into the dreaded seized LCA strut bolt.

so you can shoot me an e-mail when the time comes and I'll be more than happy to help you. kyle.ponce.08@gmail.com

Just joined and this is my first post..

But, I have an '07 and just did new Tie Rods, Upper Control Arms, and Struts with a leveling kit. In ALL my years of wrenching on cars, trucks, motorcycles, and boats....that lower strut bolt was the most infuriating thing Ive ever dealt with. I used the "Beat and Heat" method for hours before I finally got the entire bushing to come out. I then had to cut the bushing in half to get the bolt out. RIDICULOUS!!!

gonefishin776 05-09-2013 03:26 PM

yup I cut them out with a sawzall. my truck was in the garage for a week trying to figure it out.

be sure to go introduce yourself in the newbie section

Oh man. Doesn't sound like it will be as nearly as easy as working on my Volvo.

Just keep your fingers crossed that you get lucky. My Drivers side came out, my passenger was seized. I would have lost my mind if both had been seized up.
