A-pillar gauge pod and side curtain airbags

I pulled my A pillar cover off today to see if my 3rd gen pod would fit it(It WON'T) and discovered part of the side curtain airbag behind it. What I remember from my '03 was a warning NOT to use a A-pillar gauge pod with the side curtain airbags, this is still correct with the 4th gens?

I would assume the same would apply. The pillar is designed to break away when the airbag is deployed. The pod would hinder that reaction and would probably become a very large piece of shrapnel. It's safe to say: DO NOT alter or add to any pillar with an airbag behind it. Just my $.02
