Discounts possible when ordering a truck?

I checked the "How much did you pay for your 2013?" thread in the in the 2013 Ram section, and I got the impression that $8000-$10000 off sticker was more or less the norm.

Is that the case for an ordered truck as well? Or are such large discounts just given to help move existing inventory off the lot?

I factory ordered mine last year, and got the going rate/special. At the time it was 7500 off or something like that. Rumor has it that you want to talk to the fleet manager. Supposedly they are the one to talk to because they just want sales.....and profits dont matter as much.

Thanks for the reply and the good information!

Knowing the wholesale cost of the vehicle helps in determining if they gave you a discount. When I ordered mine last month (first ordered vehicle) in my 35 vehicles I have owned. I went in knowing the wholesale cost and the rebates etc. available and determined after all the stuff I wanted was factored in they will make about $1900 gross on a vehicle with all the accessories gross $66,000. Their margin in Canada on a Laramie is about $6916 with all the features I ordered. (includes $700 factory to dealer incentive).

Absolutely. Knowing the wholesale cost as well as dealer incentives such as hold backs helps in negotiating the best deal.
