2013 SLT honeycomb grill inserts painted
I under took a 5hr job to paint my grill inserts today (that was total time for removal, prep, prime, paint and clear coat)
Total cost was < $30
It wasn't a large or tough job by any standards but it turned out amazing after all said and done. Wish I took some pictures of the before but I did not. Here are the afters and a googled picture for comparisons.
If anyone wants any advice on how I did it just send me a message.
I plan to replace the head and tail lights to projectors in the near future and may replace the hood to the sport hood. I will be spraying the bed with line-x but light grey instead of the standard black.
Was the grill inserts easy to remove from the grill, Im planning on doing this too.
Yes and no, once you figured out how to remove it, its a joke.
The grill itself is held in place by 4 screws and 4 plastic push clips in which I just gave it a light tug and they popped right out.
This was the toughest part of the job which isn't tough at all.
So there are 2 (what I call) air dams on the back side of the grill which funnel the air into the centre of the grill. These must be removed first before removing the inserts (I also used these to test out the paint on). The trick here is to unclip the tabs where they are the widest, I can't remember if it's top or bottom, once you remove unclip those tabs the rest is pretty easy. Hopefully you will understand when you pull off the grill. I honestly just pulled gently on the one section (farthest from the narrow tab) and it popped out.
The Inserts are held in place by tabs and gently used a screw driver to unlock them all and the inserts then just fall out.
Putting it back is a joke and takes all of 5mins.
Great idea for the grill! Sometimes the chrome honeycomb can look a bit flashy. It looks like you painted yours silver, and that looks pristine up against the chrome on a white truck.
100% better nice job
