ABS and Brake light on dash

Well these 2 lights came on. I have changed the rear ABS speed sensor with no luck. I checked the brakes for adjustment and found a broken retainer spring. It moved around and chewed up the front shoe and the drum a little so I bought hardware kits, new drums and shoes and rebuilt both of the rear brake systems. Still have the lights on the dash. Have scanned the truck with my scanner which says it checks ABS codes and it says there are none. The brake fluid level is OK so I am at a loss for an answer.

Those are the 2 main things that could cause those lights to be on. If you speedo is working the rear sensor should be working. Does your truck have 4 wheel abs. I don't know what year they started but it's possible one of the front wheel speed sensors are bad. Or the fluid sensor in the master is bad. That would possibly explain no dtcs. Just a thought. Good luck

The truck has only RWAL. I may just have to break down adn go to the dealer and have them scan the ABS. Even though my scanner says it will do it, it wouldn't be the first time it was wrong.

Try switching out the rear wheel abs sensor on top of the driveshaft. Its an easy fix and it worked for me. Is your speedo working fully?

I'd jack up the front and check the hub bearings and clean the sensors. An '01 SHOULD have 4 w ABS, but that's not a definite.

If you have in fact ruled out the rear brakes. If the rear shoes needed hardware be sure to check the wheel cylinders. If one has a slight leak that'll throw the ABS light also because of the pressure differential.

ABS and Brake Light On

My 2001 Ram 2500 4x4 has the same problem. The lights came on sporadically at first, but stay on full time now. The scanner pointed to the right front wheel speed sensor. I replaced it, but no change. The next step is to inspect the toner ring, but that requires pulling the front axle(!) which is something I don't want to do. What else can be done?
