Rear Brake Lines HELP
 
Hey everyone. I've desperately need help figuring out the rear brake line on my 1998 Ram 1500 5.9 4x4 reg. cab truck. The line was rotted through, and when I removed it I discovered that it was too rusty to tell what was where. There is a mounting bracket affixed to the frame which I'm replacing. Also replacing the hose and the distributor (T-block) that it connects to. But I need the parts to make the brake line from the master cylinder connect to this rubber hose when it gets back there. Different sites are showing me different parts on slightly different setups. If anyone has a truck like mine and can take a picture of this setup I'd appreciate it. Be real nice to have brakes...

The rubber hose should just have a clip that holds it to the frame bracket, and the brake line threads into the rubber hose (metal compression fitting end). The hole in the bracket should be "D" shaped to keep the rubber line in place.

Thanks for the info and yeah I know I gotta get one of them clips. And I'm replacing the bracket so that shouldn't be a problem either. But how does the brake line thread into that fitting on the end of the rubber hose? I don't have any brake lines with threads...?

Alright thanks. Actually what we're thinking now is that the brake line goes and just threads into the fitting, and the fitting kinda makes threads on the line as you go...

Not really. The end of the steel line is flared with a nut over it (Male).

The rubber hose has a crimped end (the "D") and is reverse flared/nipple/female.

And they screw together.

Maybe yours was just so deteriorated it's hard to see the connection.

Alright: update time. I couldn't get the distributor block off the rear axle, so I just bolted it to the differential cover using one of the existing bolts. ran a brake line straight into the brake hose using a standard fitting, thus bypassing all the need for brackets and adaptors and crap. My problem now is that I can't bleed it since the bleeders are rusted and stripped, and now I can't get the drums off b/c they are rusted on as well... what is a good way to get these drums off, besides the ol' hammer method?

Lots of PB blaster. That stuff is great. I had to use it to get my bleeder screws out when I did my brakes. Then once I got them I replaced the bleeders and used a ton of anti seeze.

Try to loosen up the self adjusters through the access hole in the back. Then hit the drum between the lug nuts a couple tines with a BFH. DON'T hit the lug nuts.
