What size wheels for drag radials

Im about to the point where i think a set of drag radials would benefit me alot at the track so i was looking for some input on wheel size. What is the smallest rim that will fit over the rear caliper? im guessing a 17 in with out grinding anything :4-dontknow: .. it would be awesome if 15s would work, those are everywhere.. also im guessing 10 in wide would prolly work ok, i ran 8s on my mustang but the truck has way more room to play with.

17's for sure

I use 295/45R17 Mickey Thompson ET Street DR's ( all 4 corners for my 4x4)
mounted on 17"x9" cast aluminum Moto Metal 951's (dirt cheap) -12mm offset (total weight is about 60lbs per corner)

My effective gear ratio drops from 3.55:1 to about 4.30:1
weight is reduced by 120lbs vs my street tires on 20's (305/50R20 Terra Grapplers)
and I drop 4-5 tenths off my quarter mile ET's.

Forged would be lighter and stronger but more $$$

I was wondering the same but using Weld RTS Drag Wheels... Skinnies in front, 10's in rear

Very nice times BTW!

dodgert 05-19-2013 01:48 PM

Ya 17 is as small as you can go and dont think the skinnies will work up front if they do no one has used them yet on these trucks

MorgansHemi 05-19-2013 04:43 PM

I am sure you can just ahve to run spacer or some sort. I really like blackramhemi's setup as far as wheel/tire combo for Dragstrip!

I wonder if you could get away with running temporary spares on the front?

MorgansHemi 05-20-2013 12:03 AM

Nah i wouldn't do that they are only rated to like 40mph lol

I wanna say it's more like 65, and besides, that rating is with the assumption that you will be traveling at a sustained speed for a considerable distance, generating a lot of heat in that tiny tire. I would only be traveling 1320 ft. ;)
I was referring more to the race officials allowing it (doubtful).
