O/D switch not working
I got a short box reg cab 4wd with a 318 auto,
Used to be a mud toy but now I'm working road construction and need it to pull a camper.
The overdrive switch used to work and slowly faded to mashing the button, now I can't get it to disengage my OD, and I WILL NOT pull without the OD off. For fears of roasting a tranny.
What could that be? I doubt it's just the button.
Yes, it could be just a button. Have you tried replacing it?
Also, you can tow with OD, just on't push it, and slow down. If you travel at a speed where it will not go in to OD gear then it won't hurt anything. It probably won't hurt anyway, how much weight are you pulling?
I'm just saying this so you can pull until you get the button figured out. I often tow lighter loads in OD(and 2nd OD) on my 2010 and it isn't an issue. For medium-heavy loads I turn 2nd OD off.
The only concern is under heavy loads the torque converter clutch may slip. If you don't have a heavy load it's not a concern.
