Internet Speed Test...

I could never get my download speed over 20Mb/s & upload speed never saw above 4.0 Mb/s with my previous setup. It was the Cisco EA-4500 Wireless Router and a Motorola DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem.

I upgraded last night to the Apple AirPort Extreme 802.11n (5th Generation) Wireless Router & Motorola SurfBoard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem.

The picture below is my result I just achieved at http://www.speedtest.net/

Also, I can go down to my mailbox [app. 100ft. from the house] and still pick up two bars on the signal strength.

World of difference!

Highly recommended.

PS: Anyone seeing better numbers?

Nice. Is there a cap on your bandwidth?

Grubrunner 05-21-2013 05:02 PM

I have no idea.

Are they usually capped off?

I am on Cable

I wasn't even getting that before, GTY.

I never thought a quality modem and router would make such a huge difference. Everything else is the exact same.

ISPs usually have tiers with differing amounts of speed so they can charge the highest amount for the fastest speeds.

We've been on Comcast's Speed Boost for many years because of the kids and their music downloads.

I purchased the identical setup for our condo which is hosted by Cox. We are going their tomorrow for the weekend so ill see how their speed compares.

Another thing to remember with cable is it has peak times. It is like you are on one very large single network. The more people on it at a given time, the slower it is.

I got 32 mbps on my phone. I'll have to find the screenshot
