So i took my 97 dodge mudding this weekend and went through a mud bog it was pretty deep i made it through nothing weird was going on i shut the truck off and when i try to start it just makes one click took the plugs out to see what would happend and still just clicks once tried hitting the starter with a hammer. Did starter just go out or am i in deeper problems?

Did you check the battery? Have the battery tested before you start replacing expensive parts.

Verify battery is good, I just watched a hard headed friend change a starter when all he needed was a battery.. I tried not to laugh at him because it took him two days to do the starter, then had to turn around and buy a battery.. like I told him to from the start.. Check all your battery cables/connections. Clean everything if you see any corrosion build up. You possibly could have damaged your starter wire. Check or swap out the solenoid next. Also poke through your fuse boxes, you never know with todays cars.

Same thing happened to my buddy's Cummins one time, it turned out he just got a fuse wet and shorted it. before you replace anything, just go through and check out all your electrical stuff. Also, I would try throwing a jump on it if you haven't already, just to make sure...
