Please help !
Hey everyone .
Im new to these forums , i desparately need some help. I have a 99 dodge ram 1500 5.2L
I just replaced my plenum and intake gaskets , i did everything by the book as far as torqueing everything to spec. It was seated properly and everything . The problem is that now that everything is back together , when i started it there was a tremendous knocking coming from the driver side valvecover area and a ton of smoke blowing from the exhaust ! What the heck happened ?? There is also alot of vaccume at the oil fill cap . When you take the cap off it trys to suck the cap back into place I have also replaced the IAT sensor .I dont understand , please help me ! Thank you so much for any possible help !
( Up the creek )
Does it affect the oil pressure? I'm guessing that's why you have the knock.
It sounds like one of the gaskets may be restricting the oil return passage (intake), Or something was left in the intake valley. Your best bet is to pull it apart and check that the manifold gaskets are on the correct sides.
With that much vacuum it's going to be difficult for the oil pump to puck up oil fighting against the crankcase vacuum. Low oil pressure causes knocking and could be sucking who knows how much oil in through the valve seals causing the oil to enter the cylinder and producing smoke.
I might start with the throttle body because If it's not pulling it in there, it's going to try pulling it in somewhere.
