Is your 2012 a 1500 or 2500-3500? If it's a 1500 I'll swap my 3.55 rear for your 4.10. Mine has 12k miles :smiley_thumbs_up:

What part of Florida are you in ?

The only way I know of to have 4.10 gears in a 2012 1500 is if it is an R/T. Otherwise, it has to be a 2500 or larger truck.

Yep, I'll swap with ya in a heartbeat too. You are not going to see a huge increase in mpg's if that is what you are after. The guys with 4.10's and 3.92's are getting better city mpg's than us with the 3.55's in most cases. Running 85mph on the interstate is a different story though. if you drive 75mph or less, the swap would not be worth it imo.

Agreed,

My 1500 Bighorn Crew Cab Hemi Positrac with 3.92 gear gets about 19.5 Hwy and about 17 around town. I also get about 11.5 towing in winter and about 9.9 towing in summer with air on and that's towing a 7K lb. trailer.

The only time I have seen significant mileage decrease is on the interstate cruising at speeds above 70mph. Even then, it's minimal decrease in mileage. I couldn't imagine why anyone would want to swap out for a lower gear.

First downgrade request I have seen here, usually most are begging for the higher gears you have. Why the request? You may regret it!!

Wow, Only a 2.5 MPG difference between city and highway

18-19 Highway and 14 city with my 2012 and 3.92. If I am a really good boy with the throttle and on a nice long flat stretch I get close to 22 MPG.

I refused MULTIPLE trucks without 4.10's! IMHO if you ever want to tow fairly heavy and/or run bigger tires, 4.10's are MANDATORY!

I am getting better mileage out of my one ton dually than I was out of my 3/4 ton shortbed! the dually has 4.10's with stock tires(for now) and the 3/4 ton had 3.73's with 37's and the dually probably outweighs the 3/4 ton by ~500#. right now my dually is in 6th by 60mph (gonna put bigger tires on it to raise that a little) but my 3/4T wasn't good for 6th until 70+, even then, it was turning just BARELY 1500 rpms!

ChopYadown 06-09-2013 10:30 AM

So a 4.10 yields better city mpg than a lower ratio?

shawnu 06-09-2013 11:08 PM

Correct. Less throttle to get rolling. But you lose some hwy since you cruise at a higher rpm but it would be easier to stay in mds longer so it may offset that. I would think I wouldn't change much hwy unless you speed a lot. Am I correct guys??
