Air con replacement question

My AC compressor burned (literally) over a year ago. I removed the compressor and put in a pulley to take up the belt slack vs buying new belt. My ac system has been open [forgot to tape up hose ends]. My question is this: can I install a new compressor and put a cleaner through the entire system, if needed, and then vac down/add freon and be good to go? AS far as I know, the system worked fine before the 'fire'.....all wiring did not get damaged, just compressor. Do other parts normally need replaced when replacing the compressor? (other than add freon since there is zero in the system) I don't want to put out thou$ands for a dealer new complete system. I will continue to do without AC in my work truck.

You're probably gonna need at least a new expansion valve and a new dryer. The condenser is probably OK. I'm not real sure about the cleaner. Hopefully someone else will chime in on this.

Take it to an A/C Specialist. Since you left the lines open, you have so much crud in there and may have to replace them all. They may be able to flush contaminates out with special solvents they only are able to get.

I want to make it clear that you do have dirt in your system and you can no longer service it without professional help.

If you taped up the ends i would say you would be able to put a new drier and expansion vavle on, and evacuate for a good 3 hours. I would stay away from consumer flushing products as they tend to destroy then help.

^^^YEP^^^ Gotta go with TJ on this. You may spend a little more now, but in the long run it will be worth not having to buy another compressor, expansion valve, dryer, new lines, etc.
