Poor Reception in '96

Last year, the FM went out in my Indy. It was suggested on the forum that I replace it with an aftermarket unit. I installed a cheap Kenwood CD and the reception is terrible! I had AM for a short while and now nothing. Someone suggested that perhaps it is not ground correctly. The factory unit had a wire bolted to the back of the radio...this new one does not have that. I did use a new harness.

Definitely sounds like the antenna cable. The head unit must be grounded.

^I agree^

There's usually a black wire from the new head unit that you can tie into the eyelet of the factory ground strap.

Antenna wires can also be an issue as the trucks age. If there were problems with the factory unit I'd check the ground, and then look into a new antenna cable. Don't even attempt to remove the ole one from behind the dash, just run a new one.
