3000 + mile trip

got back yesterday from a 3000 mile trip (Minnesota to Brownsville TX). Drove it pretty much straight thru. had about a 3 hour nap each way at a rest stop. 70 to 85 mph. truck ran good. 19 mpg avg. on evic both ways. 5.7, 4x4, 3.92 rear end. strong head wind going south and a full bed of stuff coming back. I checked my BT catch can in Brownsville it was over 1/2 full and when I got back home I checked again and it was about 3/4 full. is this normal ? thanks Icky.........

Oh shit you just reminded me to check my catch can as I just did a 1200 mile round trip from NJ to NC.

Did you empty it when 1/2 full? And again at 3/4 full? Or 3/4 round trip? Either way very normal with not a lot of blow-by to catch.

In 2 weeks, i will be driving from San Diego to Connecticut & back again on vacation, normal it is 6,500 to 7,000 miles
I will change my oil & filters & rotate my tires before leaving
if i remember, i will also have brakes checked & my shocks need to be checked
currently there is 85,000 miles on my Ram

I will have my oil & oil filter changed again before returning home
with both oil changes, i will empty my catch Can
last year i got 17.4 MPG, according to the EVIC. i don't care what it is using paper & pencil

That temp looks like our daily avg right now out here in the desert. Are you actually in San Diego? Or closer to Palm Springs?

ichabod 07-08-2013 08:22 PM

Yes, I emptied it in Texas when 1/2 full and again when home 3/4 full. truck has 12,758 miles on it. just wondering if this is excessive or normal. thanks Icky....

do you disguard the oil or dump it back into the engine.

GTyankee 07-09-2013 03:55 AM

I personally pour the catch can oil into a squirt can & use it on my chain saw

I live about 20 miles east of the San Diego coast line, on I-8 in El Cajon, right at the foothills 870 foot elevation, 20 miles east of my place, the road is at 4,000 feet elevation

it takes me 4 1/2 days, driving about 10 hours a day to go coast to coast
first day El Paso
second day i can reach Texarkana, great bar there, but usually stop around Ft. Worth
3rd day my goal is Dayton Ohio
4th day i could make Connecticut, but usually i stop somewhere around Carlisle Pa. because it would be rude to knock on my relatives door at midnight
