Goodbye 4.7L, you treated us well.

I am sure most people know, but it kind of made me mad to find out the 4.7l is being phased out. I really did enjoy my truck up to now with this engine. Oh well I guess my next one will have the hemi again.

Home/Auto News/News article: Chrysler Boosting RAM and Pentastar Output, Phasing out 4.7L V8

First, $198 million will go to the Mack engine plant to boost production of Chrysler’s Pentastar V6 motor, an engine which finds its way under the hood of 16 Chrysler models. As a result, the 4.7-liter V8 that Chrysler currently builds is going to be phased out, leaving only the V6 and HEMI V8 as options for the RAM 1500.
The Trenton North engine plant will receive $40 million to install a flexible engine line that will be capable of producing both the Pentastar V6, as well the Tigershark four-cylinder engine found in the Dart.
The Warren truck assembly plant, home of the RAM 1500, will be getting 1,000 new employees as of March 2013, pushing the plant to its manufacturing capacity.
“Today is another important milestone in living up to the commitment we made more than three and a half years ago to our employees, this city, this region and our country to transform this company,” said Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne. In total, the move will add 1,250 jobs between all of the Michigan assembly lines, which adds up to 6,000 new hourly jobs since June 2009.

My 2011 with the 4.7L V8 is a great engine, it's my second 4.7L. I hope to keep this for a long time but those Rams with the leather tooled interior are B E A U T I FU L !

I had the 4.7L in my 2004 dodge ram 1500! I hated it.. gutless and a pig on fuel! saying that i heard once they changed the engine in 07 i believe it had more HP and better Fuel Economy! So seeing they came along with it It is too bad they are phasing it out but it does make sense you either want a HEMI or you want gas mileage... so really leaving your choice to the V6 or the hemi

I wouldn't be surprised that Chrysler will offer turbocharging on the Pentastar in a year or so. Then offer the 6.4 hemi as the base v8. Ok, I'm dreaming.:4-dontknow:

I'd be ok with a turbo v6

Unless they turbo the v6 there will be a huge gap left in power. The v6 hp numbers look impressive on paper but overall it's way shy of the 4.7L. The 4.7L was a great middle ground. Hopefully they will turbo the v6 and that gap will be filled.

Completely agreed. Now it goes from v6 (low) to 5.7 hemi. (High) to 6.4l(extreme). There is no medium. Hopefully dodge realizes this mistake.
