Tips in getting a good launch

Alright so I posted a few weeks ago about my 1/4 times using my sc data logging. Since tgen I went to the track, ram 15.1@ 95 mph, my 60' was horrible at 2.71, It was my first time to the track, only made one pass due to time. My understanding is from what I've heard I need to practice my launch, my trap speed seemed to be high for my et, especially since there was a car that ran a 13.7 @95.2 mph, so I guess I'm asking for good tips to getting a good launch and better 60' and et. If I get a perfect launch does that mean I should be running high 13s according to my trap speed?

ET's are not tied to trap speeds, especially comparing a truck to a car.

If you're getting a 2.71 60 foot time, yes you need a better launch
...and a good torque converter will solve that in a heartbeat.

But even if you can get your 60' down to 2.0's it will likely put your ET's down to only 15.0's (14.9 if you're really lucky) You can only drop 7 tenths off your launch, not 2 seconds LOL!, so no you wont be in the 13's.

List your truck, your gear ratio, tire size, mod's, the name/location of the track where you race, and post the date/time of your run off your time slip.
(post a pic of your slip would be helpful too)

If your track is on the list at http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-...calculator.php
you can determine if the weather/altitude is affecting your times as well.

^^What he said. There are a lot of variables that can affect your ETs and while it's cool to say what your trap time is, it's not a big factor in the equation. DA will probably be the biggest factor in your times given that it's summer and you're in Texas.

He would pick up more than 1/10th on his et if he picks up 7/10ths on his 60'. I would be willing to bet if he ran a 2.0 60' he would be at minimum in the 14.4-14.5 range. Drop as much weight as possible before you go to the track(tailgate, spare, backseats, passenger seat, etc) . Some ppl say that what you pick up in your 60', you double that on the big end in your et

Have you tried it for yourself? or do you base all your info on what you've heard?

I have tried and it's just not that simple, I actually lost at the top end LOL!

May 13/2011 (my best times ever)
Stock Torque Converter ... 2.1 sec 60' times....13.898/98.5mph

Edge Torque Converter (2800 stall) dropped my 60 foot times to 1.8's
but did not make my ET's any better, or my trap speeds

I'll be back this October with 500WHP Ripp Supercharger/MGH Built Trans/Alcohol Injection and an ATS Triple Lok 3000 stall Torque Converter
....and 12's (or better) no more f'n around with tenths

A converter hurts top end, it did the same to me spanky.. I ran 8.56 at 80.80 on a stock converter and street tires, then ran a 8.55 at 79.47 on 29" radials and edge 2800 converter. I'm not a ******* newbie at racing bro, I wasn't basing my prediction off changing converters, it was off just bettering his 60 with his existing mods. Which in that case picking up his 60 with his existing converter would indeed drop his et. It's no secret that a looser converter will effect top end mph, ask anyone that has done a converter swap on these heavy ass trucks that actually races on a regular bases. They damn near all lost a little in mph throught the traps but more than made up for it in their 60

Generally speaking your mph will be higher if you spin a lot out of the hole. Again, generally speaking every tenth on your 60 foot translates to 1-2 tenths on the big end. And yes this is from experience a t the track, but results may vary. I'd just advise you to practice your launch as much as you can and see what the thing will actually do. At the end of the day everything else is just speculation. Keep us posted!
