Oil Change

Went to get my first oil change (5000 miles) got to the dealer and he asked if my light came on, I told him know and he said come back at 10,000 miles, but oddly enough there was a sticker on the windshield to come in at 5000k he just peeled it off and said save your money see ya later. I asked if these ran a synthetic he said know. But your good to run 10-12k before changing. My question is am I to old school or is this ok?

Well, as per your owners manual maintenance schedule, i believe 8000 miles is still first service. I do mine between 5-7000 as I tow and sand surf as often as i can.

My Dealer told me to change at 3 to 5 K, but he said he was old fashioned and the Chrysler said before 10K.

First oil change and he said this to you?

Maybe I am old school, but I will definitely be changing out my first oil by 3000 miles, not 10!

This however is a good read, but I don't think they are referring to the first oil change, especially when the owners manual states an 8000 mile oci.

My fishing buddy is a director at a dealer, he said no car should go that far his ram every 3000 miles or 5000 Km gets oil changed. His is also a 2013 5.7 he said ya 3700 miles is good but long run 10 K miles or us up here in Canada 16 K KM is too far for the oil and the filter.

Synthetic oil can go upwards of 15,000 miles even 20,000. although filter changes and samples need to be analyzed at specific intervals. I am not going to continue with this because it always turns into a pissing contest of I know so and so he does such and such. I have seen it in power point from an oil manufacturer. I wish I had kept the notes from the class.

I personally have gone 7k miles on full synthetic in a turboed vehicle. I personally wouldn't go much further than that.
