99 Tacoma 4wd recall process
Long story short: I bought the TRD V6 4X4 new in 99. Gave it to my wife to drive back and forth to NC where all our relatives are. Toyota announced a voluntary recall in 08. The 08 letter found on the internet indicates a 15 year frame warranty which would end for this one 12/31/2013. I settled today, sold it back to them for frame penetration (rust). Although I was the original owner of this one (you don't have to be).
If you have a 99 or 2000 year Tacoma (4wd I'm sure) you can do the following:
1. Go under vehicle and check main members (if total penetration from rust), seek out a Toyota dealer (first find the 08 letter on internet, read, copy). They will inspect and if it fails send you to a services company to deal with you.
2. If it passes have fun
3. If it fails (step 1 and park it until settlement---don't risk the public).
I was working in Europe from 2002 to 2006 so was disconnected to issue.
Note, was told today the 2001's and 2004's have same problem by Toyota but the warranty on those is, replace frame free.
Thought I'd share
