Tach issues
My tach rarely works anymore. Shows 0 at idle, maybe 1100 at highway speeds. Today driving home from work, I noticed the a/c was working better than usual. (colder, faster on high).
get home, throw it in park, and tach shows normal at idle (750-850rpm's).

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks..

check your harness connections. also make sure to check the condition of your battery cables. with all the electronics we have in our trucks the slightest loose connection can wreak havoc. i have seen on my own truck the negative battery cable had a crack in the casing and was all green and corroded 80% of the wire was broken through. it caused my hazards to flash the high mount brake light and cargo lights and the reverse lights even my dash lights were flashing. but it sounds like you may have either a short in the main dash harness or loose connections somewhere.

Hey thanks for the response. That's what I was thinking too. The battery is original, 7 years October. Negative cable has corroded up and I've cleaned it. I'm gonna check connections at fuse block and check that battery again. Really want to get this resolved. Thanks again.

Not sure about your AC but do a Google search or search this forum for tach issues. The 2006 model year is notorious for tachometer failure. My 06 did it and you will find gobs of others 06 trucks that have had this issue as well. Oddly, it only seems to be the 06 trucks. Maybe a faulty design that came out during the 2006 overhaul and Chrysler fixed for 2007?? To the best of my knowledge no one has ever definitely pinpointed the exact cause but I have read a lot of speculation about the tach stepper motor, the component within the cluster that controls the movement of the tach needle. I had intended to remove my cluster and take it to a local electronics repair shop for troubleshooting but I traded the truck for my current truck before I could get around to it.

if it was only the tach i'd say get a good aftermarket and remove the factory one and install the new new tach in place of the old one behind the plastic gauge cluster cover. if the 06 tach is problematic i'd get the a/c issue dealt with and get a used gauge cluster from an 07

yep. a/c is definitly more important, especially here in the desert heat. It does work but seems more efficient on some days more than others. The tach I've pretty much gotten used to the fact that it doesn't work. I dont race or anything so.... I don't really wanna dump a bunch of money in it right now. You know how it is, we love our trucks and take pride in them and want everything working correctly.
