17x8.5 but what offset?

I am currently running factory 20 chrome clad wheels with 305/55R20 Toyo Open Country A/T's and a 1/4" spacer. I love the way it looks. But after cracking a wheel (Thankfully I had spare wheels) and my ride becoming even rougher, I have decided to go with 17's and 285/70R17 tires. But what offset do I need to be just poking out of the fender? I don't want them to stick out more than an inch but would like them to poke out some.

Thanks,
Maas

A 0 offset would be your best bet to stick our approximately 1 inch past the fender.
