Upgrade or Not

I am really thinking hard about getting rid of my Hemi 2011 and buying the new Ecodiesel. I always wanted that low end tork but can't bring myself to spend the extra money on a Cummins. Do you guys think the Ecodiesel will be a good medium and trade for me or should I stick with my Hemi? I hope the Ecodiesel is not a dog off the line.

I wouldn't do it just for the engine. From what I have read it isn't as strong as the Hemi. And the trade in costs will far exceed any fuel cost benefit.

Now if you want the engine, and all the other improvements that hit in the past couple of years, that's a different story.

We pull to the mountains a couple of times a year and the Hemi does it well but revs really high. I am interested in the low end tork.

You should check out reviews of the Jeep Cherokee with Ecodiesel. I remember thinking it was slower than the hemi, but not too bad considering the mpg improvement. And truck trend just posted tow numbers for the Ecodiesel. If you could find an article on the Jeep towing you'd probably have all the info you need.

I'm betting though with the natural low RPMs off a diesel, and the altitude defying attributes of a turbocharger, the Ecodiesel might work out pretty well for you.

I hope so. That is the only thing I am worried about is it being slow.

All that torque could make up for being "slower"
I would hold off a year so they can work out any issues first.

I'm not that patient. this motor is not new so I feel pretty confident. Usually I would agree with you.

haven't heard of any grand cherokee owners complaining about the diesel being slow.

The one thing I will miss is the great sound of the Hemi

to true, nothing can replace the classic sound of the hemi.
