2011 Transmission Shifting Issue

This has happened twice now in my 2011. The first time it happened I drove over 120 miles, stopped, left the truck running and got back on the highway and noticed the transmission was in 4th gear and would not shift into drive. I came to complete stop, put it in park, shifted through all of the gears and every time I put in drive it would show it was in 4th gear. I shut down the engine and restarted and it shifted in drive as normal and operated fine for 2 more weeks and yesterday it shifted into 4th gear again. I shut down the engine and it operated fine until I got home. I am driving my 2004 Ram until I can get it checked out but does anyone have any suggestions or has heard of this happening?

Your trucks transmission it putting itself in Limp Mode, this is to protect the tranny if it feels there is something wrong, it could be anything, solenoid, sensor, oil level, connectors on the outside of the tranny, a valve spring that is going on you, or a defect in the valve body, etc. The only way to get it out of Limp mode is to turn off the engine and then restart, if it detects a fault somewhere again, it will automatically go back to Limp mode, I would go see your dealer and have them check the transmission before it gets worse.
