I am new to the site and hope you can help. I have a 2001 Ram, 2500 V10, 53k miles, auto trans.
When pulling my 31 ft trailer down hill and using the engine to help brake (1st gear) my truck smokes (a lot). I will let the RPM's get to 3000 before braking sometimes. I think the valve guide seals need replacing but would like some advice before putting hours into replace the seals. Normal driving doesn't show any smoke.
Thanks for the help.
Sounds like seals to me, but I'm no expert. BTW, what kind of weight were you pulling and hill were you going down to need to run 1st gear?
