The truth on Air Intakes?

I just got an 07 Ram with the 4.7l; I put a K&N air intake and filter in my 2008 trailblazer a couple of years ago and am happy I did. I am wondering on this truck (since it is my second vehicle that will get less miles on it) if I need to go through the same expense.

I have noticed on ebay there are some cheap "intakes" that are just basically a filter and smooth tube. Some of them, ie. this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/02-03-04-05-...ht_5529wt_1161
even come with a K&N filter (which would probably be better than the cheapy filter on the other kits).

I am just curious what some people's opinions are on going the cheap route on an air intake? I could leave the factory intake in but would like to get a bit of a better sound if at all possible. I also noticed better fuel economy after putting a K&N kit in my trailblazer.....

I was browsing through and read a number of CAI threads but did not come accross any opinions on the cheapy ebay setups.....perhaps I missed it? Sorry still a newb here.

I realize the HP gains are small on intakes...more interested in sound and if possible fuel economy (and its always fun to do some modest mods).

......I don't consider myself much of a sweet heart, lol.

K & N Intake

I also am wondering the same....sorta. On my 03 ram 2500 with a Hemi I have a K & N cold air intake (put on last fall), but on mine when the outside temp drops below 20 the truck will not start at all. Above 20 no problems. I thought about putting one on my 2011 1500 that has a 4.7 but since the 03 wont run when it's cold out I will not. The dodge dealer has no clue what is going on. Since you posted this I thought I would warn you of my issue and also hope that someone reads mine too and can help me as well! Is it something I am missing?
I might chip my 2011 for tweaking my injectors to get better fuel mileage but am unsure if it will work.....Good luck with yours!!

CAI for Ram

I just bought a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab, 4.7L V8, I put an Air Raid CAI on it and noticed immediate differences in low end speed and gas efficiency, however I also used a Hypertech Max Energy Performance Programmer, I noticed the increase because of CAI alone, not sure if anybody has used the Hypertech before, wondering what values I should install, if anybody knows this would be greatly appreciated, i made minimal changes with it, not sure I am getting my moneys worth, you will for sure notice differences with a CAI, I live at 7000 ft, so we will see how it perfroms this winter when it actually gets cold, supposed to function better i read

do not reply to that video

Saw that video on YouTube, they use low end vehicles not used for hauling or worrying about gas mileage, you will see an increase on your mpg with a CAI

i had an ebay one and it did make noise for awhile then stopped and i took it off to put the stock setup back on cause the bigger diameter tubing on the stock setup im sure would flow better, compared to the ebay 3" tubing, i did do the stock air box mod tho, wich is basically take off the air horn and drill a bunch of 1 inch holes at the bottom and sides of the air box below the air filter with a high flow air filter and i noticed a better sound and performance from that.
