08 ram running hot
 
ive had my 08 ram 1500 5.7 hemi for three years and never had an issue with engine temp, it recently has been running about 3/4 or hotter on the gauge(ive never seen it move from normal operating temp except when towing). Ive replaced the fan and thermostat at the dealer(warranty) but that hasn't worked, the temp never gets into the red and eventually goes back to the normal operating temp. Help!

If the fan and t-stat were replaced under warranty, why not have them fix it under warranty, or at least replace the radiator? Anyway, if it goes back to normal temp, it sounds like the t-stat is sticking.

t-sats and fan was replaced on warranty, dealer says its probably air in the system and to drive it a bit, the air will work it self out, thanks for the help. If it was my money paying for the work i guess i could be more pissed.

"The air will work itself out". Huh? Air don't works itself out. You, or I should say the dealer, needs to bleed it and then add coolant.

^^^ sounds like good advice to me. roger knows what he is talking about. the cooling system is a sealed system. if there is air in there it won't magically disappear. you could try running it up to temp with the rad cap off and see if the coolant level drops. if there is air in the system it will drop after the t-stat opens and it pushes the air out. do you have heat inside the truck? are the heater hoses hot when its at normal operating temp?

One way to help get rid of trapped air is park the truck on a sharp upward incline. remove the rad cap and run the engine for a long enough time to get the temp running hot and it should help to burp the air out of the system. Good luck.

with the truck parked on an incline have someone hold the rpm at 1500-2000 while you have the rad cap off and add coolant. when you let off some will spill out the top and you'll know it's full.

Side note, I have these same symptoms, but I know my problem is a clogged radiator.
