Dumb question about TPMS

Looking at buying a new tires/wheel's for my truck. Found a package I like from tire rack. They want $176 for new TPMS's installed. If I have them shipped without the new TPMS can I have a local garage remove the ones from my existing rims and put on the new ones? I can't imagine it would cost anything near the $176 they want for new ones. Why should I replace them when nothing is wrong with them?

Can someone explain to me why I should pay the $176 for the new TPMS?

Do you plan on keeping your stock rims to put on in the winter? If so you will want to keep your stock TPMS sensors in those and buy new ones for your second set of rims. If you plan on running the new rims full time (and just selling off the stock ones) then yes, you could just take the sensors out of your stock rims and put them in the new ones.

Discount tire took mine off old rims and put onto new ones....unless you need them swap them

I just purchased a set on flea bay for $45 shipped, and they are the mopar #.

I'll probably swap them then. It's just a shame that they will mount and balance for free when you buy them together. But that's no help with unless you spend the $176 for new ones. Guess that's what you get for buying on-line. But I can't find anything with a reasonable price locally.

Just bit the bullet. Bought the tires & rims with the sensors. I figured it would save the hassle of having them mounted locally and having to take the sensors off the old wheels. Besides in the long run it really didn't cost much more since local garages want extra $$$ if you don't buy from them.
I should have them installed by this time next week.

Which tire and wheel setup do you go with?

Rims are Dick Cepek GM7

Tires are BFG Rugged Terrain

Wanted to do a small lift and larger tire but with my travel trailer I really didn't want to lift it. So I kept the stock size.

Installed the new wheel/tire set last night. I think they look so much better than the stock. For easy comparison I took a pic with the new on on the front and the old one on the rear.

That's a nice set of wheels, looks great on your truck!
