Diesel Towing Questions
I have been rigorously following these forums for a few years now, and I'm ready to buy a 1500 Diesel
I will be using it as a daily driver as well as to tow my BMW race car
I'm impatience and keep hearing about delays and now I hear that the 3.92 rear end will not be available to order until January meaning delivery in April
I really want the truck before then, so I had some questions about the diff ratios available when the truck arrives
Will they offer a 3.55?
Only a 3.22 due to the 8 speed?
If there is a 3.55 will that be adequate to tow my 3,000 lb race car on a 1,000 lb open aluminum trailer?
How will this tow?
I think the 3.22 will suck
Thanks and lots of input would be great
4000 lbs is below the V6 8-speed limits & the Hemi with 3.21 limit so you will probably be fine with the small diesel.
Don't think anyone will be able to answer that question since it is a new engine for the ram, however the 3.55 gears would do you just fine as for with the hemi it's rated for 8600# and I believe 7400# for the 3.21
Considering the heavy duty only comes with 3.42 with the Cummins you may not have a choice in the ratio on the 1500 either. Will have to wait and see.
I was originally pretty adamant about getting the 3.92, but honest I ended up with the 3.55 and the difference seems fairly minor. That's with the 5.7 not the diesel, but I'd still expect similar results.
