Oil Life

I have a new '13 Ram with 5900 miles on it, and the Engine Oil gauge says I still have 40% life left. Is that possible?? Seems way wrong to me. I got it with a little over 100 miles on it and have never reset it myself.

Most of the newer vehicles are going to 8000 mile oil change intervals, on my 12 Durango I'm at 13,500 and the oil change just came on for the second time, first was at around 6

Wow, I was a 3-4K miles change the oil type guy in my '04 Ram. This is just killing me... maybe some kind of OCD thing or something. I pulled a trailer from PA to Florida a couple of weeks ago and thought for sure it would need an oil change when I got down here. Oh well, guess I'll go alphabetize my tools in the garage or something. :)

Tighter tolerances, less blow by, and less contaminated fuel systems really help the elongation of fuel change requirements. I know people that just get oil analysis and don't actually change their oil until the lab recommends them to do so. Getting 25,000 miles out of a quality synthetic oil with tests every 5K miles goes a long way.

Yup sounds right to me. My '13 just turned 5800 miles and it had 39% left but I decided to change my oil anyway.

Changed mine at 6,000 miles and will continue to do so. I just can't see waiting until 8,000 miles.

Yep, I'm at the same percentage at 4,900 miles. My dealership does free oil changes for life every 5k though so I'm not waiting.

imo no vehicle should go past 6K miles it just isn't right I change mine every 3100 miles regardless of computer or color.

This was true maybe 20 years ago but not in todays engines.Read your owners manual.
